What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?

My research interests in relation to northern Australia are quite diverse. Most of my research focuses on the tropical biology and is therefore closely linked to northern Australia. Some of my research topics focus on (i) determinants of distributions of tropical species, (ii) mechanisms that lead to the often very restricted range sizes of tropical species compared to temperate species, (iii) human impact on the high species diversity in the tropics, (iv) reptile physiology and ecology (which have incredible diversity in the tropics), and (v) tropical venomous animals, especially snakes.

What do you love about working in northern Australia?

I love its remoteness and how it is still very underexplored. I also love how it is full of life and diversity and constantly surprises me. My favourite place in northern Australia to do research is Queensland’s Daintree National Park and surrounds because of its diversity and impressive landscapes and ecotones.
