What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?

I seek to understand how marine ecosystems function – how the environment, the animals and plants interact, and how human activities alter these interactions. I hope that by improving this understanding we can help live more sustainably and more harmoniously with the natural world.

What do you love about working in northern Australia?

Research is about discovery and northern Australia remains one of the areas of this planet where truly new discoveries can be made, unravelling how the natural world works and how man is impacting it. This should allow us to identify solutions to these pressures and deliver better environmental outcomes. The ocean is my favourite place to work. I have worked in seas and oceans all around the World and every area differs in its character and in the marine life that you see. No two days are the same and this dynamic nature and the long cultural history of our northern seas make it a great place to research.
