What are your research interests as they relate to northern Australia?

I have a broad interest in aquatic ecology which covers everything from invertebrates to fish, sharks, rays and turtles in both freshwater and marine environments. I’m lucky that I get to work with these species across the Northern Territory and learn about them through our research.

What do you love about working in northern Australia?

I love that I can see so many different species of animals in the same location on any given day. I am also lucky to visit some sites that others have never been to before and see animals in their natural environment, including large barramundi, crocodiles and birds. Plus I’ve seen some incredible sunsets during my time here in the NT! My favourite place to do research in northern Australian is the Top End’s Daly River due to its high diversity of aquatic and terrestrial species in a large relatively unimpacted perennial system. I’ve seen animals there that I’ve never seen before, including pig-nosed turtles, freshwater whipray and the endangered sawfish.
